June: Cannon Wins Contract for SLO Sports Park
June 9, 2000

Plans for a long-sought sports park for youth recreational leagues are moving forward with the City of San Luis Obispo hiring the team of Cannon and FIRMA. Cannon will provide the engineering and surveying and FIRMA will provide the landscape design for the facilities.

Four multi-purpose sports fields are planned for the 23.5-acre site west of Broad Street, near the Industrial Way intersection. The Damon Garcia Sports Facility, when completed, will accommodate competitive team sports such as soccer, softball, baseball and football.

This is the second major sports facility contract for Cannon in San Luis Obispo. The engineering firm was also part of the design team for the Cal Poly Sports Complex, which includes separate baseball and softball stadiums and is nearing completion.

"These jobs are rewarding because they provide the community with badly needed athletic facilities," said Michael Cannon, President of Cannon.

The design of the sports facility will address the location of Acacia Creek and Orcutt Creek, which currently run through the site

Cannon, founded in 1976, is one of the Central Coast's leading engineering firms and has recently opened offices in Bakersfield. They provide civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, structural design, construction management, planning and surveying services.

June: Top Engineering Firm Opens Bakersfield Office
June 15, 2000

Cannon, one of the leading engineering firms on the Central Coast, recently opened offices in Bakersfield to better serve its clients in that region.

Bakersfield represented a natural choice for Cannon's expansion. The San Luis Obispo-based firm is already working on several projects in the area and offers services ideally suited to markets in the region, such as energy, food processing and construction.

Cannon's offices in Bakersfield opened June 14.

We're excited about the opportunity to provide even greater access for our clients," said Michael Cannon, president of Cannon. "Our company's ability to provide a variety of engineering services is fueling its growth."

Robert Chambers, a senior project manager at Cannon, has been named the director of the Bakersfield office. Chambers is familiar with the region, having lived for 10 years in Bakersfield.

"I'm looking forward to leading our efforts to expand Cannon's presence in this dynamic area of the San Joaquin Valley," said Chambers.

Chambers will be joined in Bakersfield by Jim Hansen, senior mechanical engineer, who will lead Cannon's food processing group at the office.

Cannon is actively recruiting staff for its Bakersfield office. Anyone interested should contact the firm's Human Resources Department at (805) 544-7407.

February: Cannon Taking Part in National Engineers Week, Feb. 19-23
January 22, 2001

Cannon, an engineering firm based in San Luis Obispo and Bakersfield, is taking an active role in DiscoverE, one of many programs taking place during National Engineers Week, Feb. 19-23.

More than 5 million engineers, teachers and students are expected to participate in the DiscoverE program this year. Engineers will sponsor extracurricular activities and visit classrooms to show students how math, science and engineering create the world around them and to introduce them to technical careers. DiscoverE has been endorsed by the National Science Educational Leadership Association and School Science & Mathematics Association.

In addition to visiting fifth-, sixth, junior high and high school classrooms, Cannon is the $1,200 corporate sponsor for Santa Maria Discovery Museum activities planned for National Engineers Week. On Monday, Feb. 19, the museum will be open special hours to meet engineers. Tuesday is Field Trip day. Wednesday is Pre-school day. The topic on Thursday, Feb. 22, will be engineering for girls. The week concludes on Friday with a Bridging the Gap building competition using spaghetti.

National Engineers Week is designed to increase public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession and to celebrate the positive contributions engineers make to all aspects of people's lives.

February: Structural Engineering Services from Cannon
February 20, 2001

Joshua Moody, of Cannon, is a newly registered structural engineer for the State of California. Moody qualified for this distinction after passing a rigorous two-day exam. In doing so, the broad range of services offered by one of the Central Coast's leading engineering firms has expanded. With the addition of a licensed structural engineer, Cannon has the expertise to meet the needs of school and hospital clients.

"This is a significant benefit for our clients," said Mike Cannon, president of Cannon. "By offering a full range of engineering services we are able to coordinate projects more effectively, providing our clients with what they want."

Moody received his undergraduate degree in architectural engineering from California Polytechnic States University and attended California State University - Sacramento for his Masters in structural engineering.

Cannon, with offices in both San Luis Obispo and Bakersfield, specializes in a variety of areas that include development, energy, environmental, food processing/wineries, public works, water supply and sanitation and schools and institutions.
